Call for Nominations for Graduate Recruitment Awards from Global Antiquity

Graduate Recruitment Awards are distributed by the Institute for the Study of Global Antiquity to assist in the process of bringing new graduate students who have expressed a commitment to pursue some aspect of ancient studies to UCLA. The purpose of the award, added to a student’s offer in their first year, is to enhance UCLA’s competitiveness for the most highly recruited doctoral students. Any admitted student, whose work is directly relevant to ancient worlds, is eligible to receive an award.

Up to four successful applicants will be awarded with fellowships in the amount of $2,500, which shall be added to the financial offer made by their admitting department or program and disbursed in one lump sum in Fall Quarter of 2023. To nominate a student for this award, SAOs/graduate advisors should submit the following materials:

  1. The student’s complete application package, including copies of transcripts, personal statements, and letters of recommendation;
  2. A short paragraph from the department explaining the nomination;
  3. A rank-ordered list of the department’s admitted students (at least the top five).

These materials should be submitted to Dr. Jonathan Winnerman, Academic Administrator for Ancient Studies, at jwinnerm@ucla.edu, by March 10th at 5:00pm. Advisors and departments shall be notified of their nominee’s status by the end of March.

Recipients of this award will be required to submit to the Institute for the Study of Global Antiquity a one-page summary describing how this award benefited their research and education during the academic year 2023-2024. A summary of their research will also be featured on the Global Antiquity website.
